Bios for the Stone Family

HenryHenry H. “Hank” Stone
Hank was born in Merced, on December 6, 1930. An only child, he grew up in the Salinas area. His father, Carol H. Stone, was the regional manager for Golden State Creamery. Upon graduation from Salinas High School, he attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, majoring in Animal Science. While in college, he played both baseball and basketball on freshman and JV teams, until he took the job as a student herdsman at the Sheep Unit. He was a proud member of the winning Livestock Judging Team at the Cow Palace in 1951, and also on the Dairy Judging Team in 1952. His education was interrupted by Uncle Sam in 1952, when he was drafted into the Army. As luck would have it, he wound up as a meat inspector with the U.S. Veterinary Corps, working in boning and packing plants in the San Jose area. After his discharge from the Army he had jobs as a ranch manager in Ukiah and Fort Bragg.
